PS4 System Update Version 5.0 Patch Notes Leaked

About a couple of weeks ago, a report surfaced to suggest that major features and improvements will be brought about to the PS4 through its next firmware update 5.0, intimating that it would not only add PS One Classics compatibility, but also the option for gamers to change their PSN ID.

Sony has yet to detail the update itself, but Eurogamer has obtained a copy of the update's release notes.

Why the change? Sony's documentation states this is to "encourage more sharing of content and more interactions".

Other additions include expanded account management options, with new family accounts that can feature multiple adult accounts, as well as updates to system notifications, making them visible from the Quick Menu, and more. For instance now, instead of simply following well-known streamers or developers or YouTube personalities on their own Playstation accounts, a similar system to the Xbox One is being put in place where you can follow anyone that you want to. You could previously follow specifically curated and verified accounts but this allows players to expand their content networks without pushing the limits of their friends list on PlayStation.

PlayStation 4 Pro owners can stream via Twitch in 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Another interesting point is that the system will now support bundle and compilation discs with add-ons on disc, so Game of the Year editions can offer players a more seamless experience for users without developers needing to faff around with the code. Family accounts will be able to be monitored by more than one parent/guardian acting as the admin. Admins are able to set parental controls on a per-account basis so that each child has different communications, content-viewing and spending limit privileges. Requets can also be sent to adult accounts on other PlayStation 4s to join the same family.

In a small but welcome change, notifications and upload/download statuses can be seen from the Quick Menu that's accessed by holding the PlayStation button. Anything you or a followed user shares thus gets broadcasted to followers.

Language support for Czech, Thai, Greek, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Romanian and Hungarian.
