Rez Infinite gets a surprise release on Steam with VR support

Now in a surprise move, the game has been ported to PC, and is available today on Steam and Oculus Home.

The psychedelic rail shooter Rez was a hit back in 2001, Rez Infinite wowed everyone as an exclusive release for PS4 and PSVR past year.

"We are extremely excited to finally bring Rez/Rez Infinite to PC". And now that experience is available to a whole new audience - a PC version of Rez Infinite has been announced. It's compatible with the Vive motion controllers and the Oculus Touch for aiming, and you can also use the little remote wand that comes with the Oculus. During the first month of release, there'll be a free package of bonus content available including soundtrack samples, desktop wallpapers, and avatars. Mizuguchi's Enhance Games tapped indie studios Monstars and Resonair to make the new VR versions of Rez Infinite.

Iam8bit is also offering a PC Collector's Edition with an audio cassette tape of the same Area X tracks included in the Digital Deluxe DLC, a digital download of the tracks and a Steam download code for the full game. Below, you can view an overview of the game via its Steam page. Seeing as the game was released to nearly everyone's surprise (except Digital Foundry, who would have had advance time to make their video) I can't say how good it is yet, but advance word is it's a solid port that runs nicely across a good variety of hardware. Now, over 15 years later, fully remastered, the latest form of Rez is infinitely improved and evolved for a new generation of hardware and its gamers. Pretty impressive for a title that's been in the gaming lexicon since the Dreamcast era.

Yokohama-based game developer Monstars was co-founded by Osamu Kodera and Sawako Yamamoto in 2011 and is comprised of a talent pool of highly creative and experienced designers, programmers, artists, musicians and producers.
