Overwatch is adding Deathmatch modes to the Arcade

This mode will pretty much operate the same way as the normal game modes except there's no objective other than killing.

Overwatch's Deathmatch game modes will go live on the PTR today, August 10, and will enter onto the live servers at a later date.

Now available in Overwatch's Public Test Region - which is exclusive to the Windows PC version of the game - are two new kills-only modes, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.

In the Deathmatch mode, players fight to get the most kills, which will be tracked in a new scoreboard.

So, where will you be playing these new modes? In a neat twist, Mercy's resurrection ultimate will actually take away kills from the other team's kill count.

What is confirmed is both modes will be added to the Arcade hopper where Blizzard puts its experimental and custom game modes. Some of the Hybrid, Assault and Escort Overwatch maps have been modified for the purposes of Deathmatch, and there'll be a new purpose-made map for free-for-all too.

Numerous existing maps will be modified to work better with a free-for-all mode and Overwatch is also introducing a brand new map called Château Guillard for the game mode. Mechanically it'll have jump pads and tight corridors, while narratively you'll get hints about Widowmaker's background.

In Team Deathmatch, two teams of four players face off until one team scores 30 points. The map is home to Widowmaker, following her civilian life and lore of the character and her family estate in France.

"I know at one point I said we would never have deathmatch in Overwatch - well, surprise, never say never", Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan said in his latest "developer update" video. It was in the last summer games event as well, but it's updated now to function a little better.
