Spike Lee promotes NYC rally for Colin Kaepernick

Then San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, front, and safety Eric Reid, back left, kneel during the playing of the national anthem on September 18, 2016 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The fallout centers on Colin Kaepernick who has not been signed to a team. During an interview a year ago, he told National Football League media, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color".

The Washington Post claimed that Kaepernick had been blackballed by the National Football League, while others such as Joe Montana said his poor play factored in his not being able to find a job.

"It is clear [that] the NFL's intent to make an example out of Colin Kaepernick is rooted in White supremacy, which dismisses the reality of the dehumanization of Black bodies in America", The People's Consortium's president Rev. Stephen A. Green says in the statement.

Kaepernick said that he was doing so in protest of the ongoing unrest between minorities and the police.

Lee tweeted an advertisement for the rally, scheduled for August 23 outside the NFL's headquarters in NY.

Last season Kaepernick was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers last season but will not join that team this season.

SOUL's considering ways to protest on Kaepernick's behalf, but have made no concrete plans. "So pray for us". "And what has happened to Colin Kaepernick has proven that we have not; that what he has spoken out against has been on our TV screens, has been on our social media, and we have chosen to be willfully ignorant to the realities that exist in this country around racial and economic inequity", she said.
