Military leaders in Seoul Thursday condemned North Korea's recent threats as "thoughtless words" and emphasized South Korea's willingness to act in response to an attack on its USA ally.

Ri's full statement continues with a caveat, saying that North Korea won't halt its weapons programs, "unless the hostile policy and nuclear threat of the USA against the D.P.R.K. are fundamentally eliminated".

"North Korea's provocative actions, including this time, are obviously provocative to the region including Japan as well as to the security of the worldwide community", Yoshihide Suga, Japan's chief government spokesman, told reporters.

However President Moon did not make any public comments on this matter and he did not attend the Thursday meeting of his National Security Council (NSC) that a presidential spokesman clarified was not an emergency session, but a "regular weekly meeting" presided over by NSC Director Chung Eui Yong.

South Korea on Thursday called on North to "immediately stop" its belligerent rhetoric amid a recent spike in tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The North Korean news agency accused Seoul of lying that the restaurant employees had voluntarily chosen defection and settled well in the South.

The Unification Ministry has dismissed reports by North Korean state news outlets that a group of female North Korean restaurant employees were forced into marriage in South Korea.

"Obviously the South Korean government does not support (a US pre-emptive strike)". Bear in mind that Ri said this before Trump threatened nuclear "fire and fury", and his characterization of the US's "hostile policy" is steeped in propaganda.

"It's very important to maintain U.S. deterrent power as the security situation in the region is extremely severe", he added.

PACAF said the aircrews practiced intercept and formation training, enabling them to enhance their combined capabilities and tactical skills, while also strengthening the long standing military-to-military relationships in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. But experts say the Japanese military does not now have the capability to shoot down a missile in high altitude.
