Android O Will Be Last Major Update For OnePlus 3, 3T

Confirmed via the OnePlus forums, the last Android version update the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will receive is Android O. This information was revealed while he was answering questions on the forum.

Smartphone manufacturers typically keep open an industry-standard two-year action window for major software upgrades. While closing the door on future OS updates after Android O, the company did say that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will continue to get security updates for the "foreseeable future".

The company kept the name with the newly released OnePlus 5 as well as the recent flagship has been receiving updates right from the day one.

This is why it doesn't really come as a surprise to learn that OnePlus will be done with the OnePlus 3 and 3T after the Android O update. We'll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates.

The OnePlus 3 was released in the summer of of 2016, while the OnePlus 3T arrived just before the turn of the year.

In the course of the QnA, Oliver was also asked about some OP5 software features making their way to the OP3/3T via an update.

According to Oliver, the August security patches for the OnePlus 3 and 3T are going to be released "soon" while the OxygenOS 4.5 build will be out "in the next 1-2 months".

OnePlus recently released the OnePlus 5 which comes with a dual-camera setup at the rear, a slimmer and lighter design and top of the line specifications.
