CCTV footage shows Vikas Barala buying alcohol before stalking

Vikas Barala, son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Subhash Barala was sent to a 14-day judicial custody along with his friend Ashish in the Chandigarh stalking case on Saturday afternoon, reported ABP News. Surya Prakash Garg, lawyer of the accused, said that his client has alleged that they are making him scapegoat in this case. However, based on the public prosecutor's plea, the court granted two-day police custody of the accused on grounds that they were needed to reconstruct the crime scene and establishing motive behind the crime.

There was a massive outrage on streets and in the Parliament regarding the incident.

The development comes after the police earlier released a video footage showing the one of the accused (Ashish) buying alcohol before chasing Varnika Kundu's vehicle on the night of August 4.

The two accused were re-arrested on August 9 and were charged with attempted abduction under section 365 of the IPC and section 511, which relates to an attempt to commit an offence punishable with life or other imprisonment. But they were released later on bail.

On charges of stalking and harassing IAS officer's daughter Varnika Kundu in Chandigarh, Vikas and Kumar were initially arrested.

Subhash Barala, who held a press conference on Thursday, said police must take appropriate action against his son as per the law if he is named in the FIR.

The notice was issued to both the accused, under 160 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the case was filed against Barala under Section 354D (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 185 MV Act (rash driving).
