While 12 people were reported to have died on the spot, dozens were left wounded.

According to ISPR, an army truck was the main target of the terrorists. "Rescue operation is over and all those injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital", Bugti said.

The nature of the blast could not immediately be determined but an investigation was underway, Bugti said.

The deceased include members of the armed forces and civilians, said the provincial home minister.

"We have so far received eight dead bodies and 17 injured", Doctor Fareed Sumalani, medical superintendent of the local government hospital, told AFP news agency. ISPR said "Incendiary explosive was used in the blast due to which nearby vehicles caught fire", as per DawnNews.

At least 25 people have also been reported as injured in the blast that set multiple cars on fire. An state of emergency has been declared in the hospitals of Quetta.

15 people, including 7 civilians, have lost their lives in a huge suicide explosion near Quetta's Pishin Stop.

Days later, two navy sailors were killed and at least three others were wounded when their vehicle was attacked in the Jiwani area of Gwadar district.

Daesh, a Takfiri terrorist group which mainly operates in the Middle East but has also established a branch in Afghanistan, has claimed several attacks in the Pakistani territory in the recent past.

Quetta also has been a stronghold for Taliban militants who frequently cross the border and carry out attacks against security forces in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In May, at least 10 labourers were killed in Balochistan's Gwadar district when unidentified assailants opened fire at the construction site where they were working.
