Chelsea set to make second bid for Drinkwater

"In the last 24 hours odds have been slashed from to 2/1 to odds-on at 4/5 for Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater to sign for the Blues, as the Premier League champions look to bolster their options in the middle of the park".

Leicester already lost a key player to the likes of Chelsea, having seen combative midfielder N'Golo Kante leave in the previous transfer window.

However, the Italian coach has made it perfectly clear the club needs to make further additions if they are going to be competitive in all competitions this season as their bench was filled with youngsters during Saturday's shock defeat to Burnley.

However, the Foxes are ready to dig their heels in and demand the £40m Chelsea received from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic.

The Blues' second bid could total more than £25 million, according to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph.

But Chelsea may find their improved offer rejected out of hand as Leicester do not want to lose Drinkwater.

It is understood that Drinkwater's bid will be submitted this week while the London side prepare to bring three players to the Premier League title winners.

Chelsea have spent almost £150million on signing Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Bakayoko this summer but Conte is keen to add three of four new faces to his squad before the window closes.

The newspaper says Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain targets while they are also eyeing a bid for Virgil van Dijk if Southampton indicate they are willing to cash-in on the centre-back.
