Govt alert on Swine Flu, Dengue situation: Health Secretary

"There is no need to panic even though other parts of the country have reported spurt in positive cases and casualties".

A review meeting was held here to take stock of the situation following spread of the two diseases in the state.

Meherda informed that Swine Flu has claimed eight lives in Odisha so far while adequate measures are being taken to create awareness.

The secretary said swine flu cases are being reported at an alarming rate across the state. Meherda who has also reviewed dengue incidence said the number of people afflicted by this was less than the figures reported previous year, when eight people had died of the malaise.

A total of 342 samples have been tested so far, he added.

The ministry said it was monitoring patients with flu symptoms, in cooperation with the Myanmar Medical Association and Myanmar General Practitioners Association.

Reports said that the number of dengue patients is on the rise the state while most of the cases have been referred from Bhadrak and Balasore districts. In state there were 131 samples of najal-swab were tested and of them 24 tested positive.

When contacted Dr Sudhir Jaisani, Chief Medical & Health Officer, said no test report of swine flu patients was received but 13 samples of swine flu suspected patients were sent to Virology Lab for testing.
