One survivor in overnight Long Island hammer attacks

Bobby Vanderhall is due to be arraigned Sunday.

Using a hammer, the suspect allegedly beat and killed his mother - 58-year-old Lynn Vanderhall, his sister Melissa Vanderhall, 29 and Janel Simpson, 29 - allegedly striking them all multiple times with a hammer.

His sister, Melissa Vanderhall, 29, was on the stairs when she, too, was beaten to death. Meanwhile, Bobby killed her sister's other friend Janel, who he found in a room upstairs, in the same manner. She also died from bludgeoning.

There people were murdered and a fourth was assaulted in a Hempstead home early Saturday morning, Nassau County police said.

Authorities said Vanderhall's behaviour had become more troubling recently, leading his mother to obtain an order of protection against him.

"The doors were secured and he became enraged", said Fitzpatrick. Police say Vanderhall used a large hammer to break through the basement door, then attacked the women.

'The family right now is distraught, ' said Juanita Johnson, a cousin of the Vanderhalls.

Denis Simpson said his daughter had worked late as a secretary at Northwell Health and then went to her friend's house to hang out.

A mother, her daughter and her daughter's friend were bludgeoned to death with a hammer in a house in Hempstead, police said.

. The friends had taken a trip to attend Carnival in Trinidad and were planning to visit Cuba in the fall.

'These girls don't give problems, these girls just have fun, ' Simpson said.

It's not immediately known if Vanderhall has an attorney who can comment on the allegations.

Vanderhall is charged with three counts of second degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sunday and is now being kept in Mineola in Nassau County.
