Pressure on Guardiola, Mourinho to deliver on investment

Pressure on Guardiola, Mourinho to deliver on investment

Joe Hart could become the first away goalkeeper to keep three clean sheets at Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has called on his side to stop relying on their frontmen for goals this season.

Jose Mourinho has told his players they must all take responsibility for solving Manchester United's goalscoring problem, while adding that a Premier League title was a more realistic target this season.

"It will be hard, with the quality of their players, their fan base and the money that they can spend, but that's the Premier League".

Hernán Crespo, the former Argentine worldwide who won the English Premier League with Chelsea in 2006, is tipping Romelu Lukaku to fire Manchester United to the title in 2017-18.

The Citizens have been Premier League champions twice in the last seven seasons and with Pep Guardiola still on the bench enter this season with the biggest favorites, alongside Chelsea, for picking up the trophy.

Hazard recovers quickly, sticks around and plays up to the form he showed for much of last season. You've got to understand what the club is all about.

The team struggles to adjust, flames out of the Champions League early and struggles to finish in the top four after a shaky start.

Mourinho's latest acquisition Nemanja Matic is perhaps the smartest piece of transfer from the Red Devils thus far, as the former Chelsea man provides the wall in midfield United lacked last season.

Playing three at the back may enable Guardiola to associate Aguero and Jesus in attack, after he generally used a single-striker system last season following Jesus's arrival in January.

But in between the sticks stand United's most important player David De Gea. If he is to continue to grow, United will be in safe fans. Mourinho will have to learn to trust the fringe members of his squad if United are going to still be in contention at the business end of the season.

Everybody knows that Guardiola's game big time depends on full backs so it's no wonder that City spent nearly £150m on Kyle Walker, Benjamind Mendy and Danilo, while other two signings are potent midfielder Bernardo Silva and Primeira Liga's best goalkeeper Ederson. Luke Shaw will miss the opening month of the season through injury - leaving Daley Blind to most likely feature, although Matteo Darmian looms large.

The buzz may have gone but the biggest question before the coming season remains whether two of the highest-profile managers in the world can deliver on all the hype surrounding them.

For context, the Sportingintelligence website reported that Watford's £50 million summer spending is more than four times that of every Scottish club combined.

However, in their last game before the start of the Premier League, they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of lasts year's Champions League winners Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final on Tuesday.
