Wozniacki Reaches 6th Final of 2017 with Win over Stephens in Toronto

Halep and Svitolina won rain-delayed quarter-final matches early Saturday, hours before their semifinal.

All of the delays came in the first set and Wozniacki seemed to gain encouragement as she bounced back from 3-0 down.

In other quarterfinal matches, defending champion and second-seeded Simona Halep of Romania faced off with Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia while fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine challenged fourth-seeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.

Halep saved a match point as she broke for 5-1 in the second set but Svitolina was not to be denied in the next game, sealing her passage through to the final as the former fired a forehand into the net.

Sixth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki recorded her first-ever victory over a reigning World No. 1 player on Friday with a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4 win over Karolina Pliskova to advance to the semifinals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Halep said she is confident her legs will hold up when she faces Svitolina later in the day for a spot in the final. The Dane has been the tour's most winningest player, amassing 46 wins against just 15 losses, but in each of her five previous finals she has fallen. "I just want to give my best, enjoy the match, and try to fight", Halep said. It's not going to be easy; I'll be playing against a very good opponent. "I need some time to analyze this day (Saturday) and then move into final (Sunday), which is really soon". "She's strong there and she played her game". It's just tough to play her in these conditions.
