Delhi High Court hears plea against deadly Blue Whale game

In contrast to this death alley a group in Brazil has started Pink whale challenge which nearly acts like a self help group for people who are depressed.

The family of a 22-year-old man, who had committed suicide by hanging himself inside his home in Kerala last month, on Wednesday said they suspected that suicide was spurred by "Blue Whale Challenge" addiction.

"We appeal to parents, teachers, students and all concerned individuals to keep a close watch on all those who may be showing abnormal and erratic behaviour because they may be playing online games such as the Blue Whale Challenge", the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) said in a press statement.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday expressed concern over children allegedly committing suicide while playing "Blue Whale challenge", and wondered why adults are also influenced by this online game. Under the IT eco-system, no initiative shall be permitted which provokes young boys to commit suicides.

Prasad said the government has already issued instructions to all tech platforms to check the spread of "The Blue Whale Challenge".

The government has directed technology giants, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo to remove all links which direct users to the game.

"It is important and the violation will be viewed very seriously", Prasad said. It gives certain tasks to its players for a period of 50 days and the final task leads to suicide.

"The Blue Whale", reportedly created by a former convict in Russian Federation, reportedly psychologically stimulates the players to indulge in daring, self-destructive tasks for 50 days before finally taking the "winning" step of killing themselves, and each task must be filmed and shared as "proof".

Citing deaths of children in India and overseas, the petitioner sought immediate directions to restrain the internet majors from uploading any material pertaining to the Blue Whale Challenge. I got scared after hearing it and asked my son not to play the game.

On August 12, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had urged the Centre to take immediate steps to ban the Blue Whale Challenge in the country "to save precious lives".
