However, despite Liverpool's American owners FSG stating publicly that Coutinho will not be allowed to join Barca, Townsend believes the Reds would be better served selling the Brazil worldwide and reinvesting the funds from his exit in the unsettled Blues forward.

He added: "Until deals are closed I can't say anything". Of course we think about what we can do.

"I can not really say a lot about it [Coutinho]".

Jurgen Klopp insists nothing has changed with regards to Philippe Coutinho's future at Liverpool, despite comments from Barcelona's general manager Josep Segura suggesting a deal for the Brazilian is moving closer to completion.

Coutinho missed the opening draw at Watford after handing in a transfer request just 24 hours before the game as the playmaker looks to try and push through a move to Barcelona.

"We are discussing their deals but do not know when it will be done". "He played a part in a full session but always after injuries you have to wait to see how the player has reacted", Klopp said.

However, Klopp is adamant there have been no more developments and the two clubs are not even in discussions.

When asked if he believed if the pair would both move to Barcelona this summer, Segura replied: "We hope".

"We have already said what we have to say".

"To be honest I have nothing to say about his attitude because since he has had a back problem he has obviously not been in training", he said.

"But when I asked the medical department how he is doing, there was no complaints". There is nothing bad to say about this.

"Not just Barca, but any team looking for top quality players are getting involved in a very hard situation in this market", Fernandez said.
