Amazon returns will soon be accepted at select Kohl's stores

The department store will pack and ship eligible Amazon return items for free at the 82 stores offering the service with designated parking spots near the Kohl's store entrances for those partaking in the service. Items can be returned free of charge regardless of return reason and regardless of whether the items are packaged for shipping.

Forget shippings labels and packing tape: Returning items to Amazon just got cheaper and easier. The return centers will be at the front of the store so Amazon shoppers don't have to wait in long lines with Kohl's customers making purchases.

Analysts say several factors have negatively impacted the company, including the rise of Amazon and competition from Walmart and Target; the decline of TV viewing by kids, who are watching more content on commercial-free streaming services so are not influenced by traditional advertising; and a heavy debt load from a previous buyout by private equity firms. I personally do not see it, but maybe if a Kohl's is on your way to work, this might be convenient.

The online titan has made strides this year to acquire or partner with brick-and-mortar stores, expanding its grip on the retail scene.

In August, Amazon announced that it would be buying Whole Foods in a deal valued at about $13.7 billion, a move that set the stage for more radical store experimentation.

Kohl's hasn't said if or when this service will expand its other department stores.

Amazon and Kohl's also are building "smart home" experience stores within 10 Kohl's locations in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas.

Kohl's and other retailers such as Sears Holdings are teaming up with the ecommerce giant - which has dented sales at retailers across the United States - ahead of the holiday season.
