Penn State Beats Iowa on Final Play Behind Saquon Barkley's Huge Performance

"I'm not sure I can give you an answer", he said. I think defensively, it's just making sure we stay connected as a unit. A mediocre first three games means Penn State has to play almost flawless for the rest of the season. If it does neither, the Lions could be on upset alert. So Franklin looked to Smith to have a standout performance in his first major appearance.

Penn State hasn't visited Iowa since 2012, when Bill O'Brien was still coach, and none of the current players have ever played there. Revenge is on the Hawkeyes' minds after being blown out 41-14 at Beaver Stadium just a season ago. If the Nittany Lions are to beat the rest of the stiff competition in the Big Ten East, special teams will likely continue to be a huge factor. "I think it's awesome".

Nittany Lions coach James Franklin will bring a talent-rich team to Iowa tonight, pairing an aggressive defense with an offense led by a veteran quarterback in Trace McSorley and a pair of preseason all-Americans in running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Mike Gesicki. He is listed behind fellow senior middle linebacker Jason Cabinda on the team's depth chart.

The defense has been locked in as well, allowing 14 points or fewer through three games of action for the first time since 1996.

"I mean this with all due respect to Akrum, but we're talking about Barkley being one of the guys that's going to be I would imagine a top-five pick", Ferentz said. "We're getting turnovers and keeping people out of the end zone". Lee's 10th kill of the match closed out the second set for Penn State as they ran off a 6-1 run late.

"Some guys can just go and sit by themselves or do whatever they need to do, but in fairness to my wife and because I want to be with her, that's just time with my wife", Smith said. If Barkley gets things going, watch out.

With or without football, Smith has big plans for the future. Wadley will be joined by Ivory Kelly-Martin and Toren Young as the Hawkeyes try to crack Penn State's defense.

"It's definitely the fans", Jewell said.

Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) recorded a double-double for the Nittany Lions, putting down a team-high 15 kills and scooping up a season-high 13 digs. He and his wife have volunteered at homeless shelters, and done other community work through their church, Revival Tabernacle, in Watsontown. But, again, Penn State is covering kicks as well as anybody in the country right now. Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc.is the parent company of The Daily Item.
