Himachal Pradesh assembly election on November 9

Himachal Pradesh assembly election on November 9

The Election Commission on Thursday announced that voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will be used in polling in the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election. "Himachal might get very heavy snowfall and severe weather from keeping that in mind, we are holding votes on November 9". The counting of votes will take place on 18 December. Scrutiny will be done the next day and the last for withdrawal of candidates will be October 26.

Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti said a model code of conduct, a set of dos and don'ts for political parties for their election campaign, will be effective today.

He said the election process in Gujarat will be completed before vote count in Himachal. AK Jyoti said that Gujarat government also requested that announcement of dates is delayed as rehabilitation and relief work post floods in July is now going on.

A team of EC officials headed by the CEC was on a visit of Gujarat to assess the poll preparedness.

Meanwhile, the term of the current Himachal Pradesh Assembly ends next month. There will be 136 special all-women managed polling centres in Himachal Pradesh, two in each constituencies.

"The arrangement has been made to make sure that the election in one state does not affect the outcome of the other state", the Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti said. CRPF will be deployed for area domination, route marches in vulnerable areas. Braille photo voter slips will be provided for visually-challenged voters.

While the term of the 182-member Gujarat Assembly ends on January 22, that of the 68-member Himachal House will come to an end on January 7.
