Iran ready for tough Costa Rica

Germany coach Christian Wueck today said there was intense pressure on his team from fans back home after the shock loss to Iran in the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup here.

Coming into the match here on Friday, both Germany and Guinea had the chance to advance to the next round. However, they need a big win against Iran and hope the result goes in guineas way if they want to make an easy entry into the Last 16 of this tournament. Germany only took nine minutes to take the lead in the game, with captain Jann-Fiete Arp scoring the goal from a defensive mistake from the Guinean defence. "In the second half we tried to take some initiative but they (iran) made our life hard in the game".

"The reactions in Germany were not so good after the last game, so the pressure on my players was enormous".

After brief period of midfield battle, Iran slowly opened up the rival defence with raids from the flanks and Costa Rica started feeling panicky, conceded two penalty in a span of four minutes.

Wuck said that the conditions in Kochi were better than in Goa and helped the game a lot.

According to the Newspaper, And with good reason. The Iranians reached the final of the AFC U-16 Championships here previous year, losing only in a penalty shootout to arch-rivals Iraq and have scintillated so far in the World Cup to win both matches. But keeping superstition aside, the surge here would suggest that Iran have brought every last ounce of their experience in Goan conditions into their effervescent display at Fatorda while outplaying Guinea 3-1 and demolishing fancied Germany 4-0.Much as the ambience at Benaulim appeared relatively relaxed, Iran's philosophy after winning a match offers no let-up in intensity."When we win any match, we think more about any point of weaknesses". "I think we have a team that is strong in offence".

Summary: That boils down to beating Costa Rica to guarantee topping the group."Goa is a good omen for us", the stoic Chamanian said. In nearly every match we played in this group, we had 10 chances, but we haven't capitalised.

Germany now meet Colombia in New Delhi on October 16, and will get one day less to rest for that match than their opponents.

"It is their best performance so far and if they continue to perform in the same manner we have a great chance to reach the final", said Chamanian. "But overall, I am very happy for him", Camara said.

"We played against a very strong and physical team tonight". First of all we have to sleep.
