Momoa then jokes: "And rape attractive women and have them fall in love with me, you know what I mean?"

It sounds like even Jason Momoa is grossed out by his 2011 joke.

A video has resurfaced of Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa joking that one of the best bits about the cult series is that he gets to "rape lovely women".

That now includes actor Jason Momoa, made famous by his role as the burly Dothraki lord Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. Perhaps he sees that in even more stark relief in light of the accusations his Justice League costar Ben Affleck is facing.

Momoa has taken Instagram to say sorry for the rape joke, which was reposted on Twitter in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal.

Some old footage of Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa joking about rape in the context of the show has recently been making the rounds, and, would you believe it, the joke is offensive and also quite revealing.

Momoa elaborated on the comments in an interview with the New York Post.

The video has been shared widely on social media since Weinstein's downfall, with one user calling it "horrific".

"Yeah, I'm raping Emillia [Clarke]" he said.

We're pleased to see that he has owned up for his comments and offered an apology, but the comment shouldn't have been made in the first place. "I prefer my women to enjoy sex".

Jason, who is now in Australia to film his upcoming movie Aquaman alongside Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard, responded to the backlash with an apology on social media this morning.
