Morata ruled out of Chelsea's trip to Crystal Palace

The Blues pair are sidelined with hamstring injuries picked up in the last couple of weeks.

Conte admits the 26-year-old's absence will be a "big loss" for the Premier League champions and predicts the midfielder will be in a race to be fit for the Premier League fixture against Jose Mourinho's side at Stamford Bridge on November 5. "From the previous scan, maybe he will be out for around 20 or 21 days", Conte told reporters on Friday.

"We are going to do a scan next week to check his situation to see if he is improving". We must have patience with his calf problem.

"We're talking also to adapt a player who for me is very important [as a] central defender", Conte said of Luiz. We don't have another player with the same characteristics.

Conte will call upon Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko when Chelsea visit Palace on Saturday [14 October].

"I hope to have Morata back against Roma", Conte said at a press conference.

And Conte says Chelsea will be without the pair against Palace tomorrow, as well as summer signing Danny Drinkwater being absent.

"For sure we're not lucky in this period". I don't want to change a lot, but if there is the necessity I am ready to do this.

"When I chose to utilise him in midfield against Tottenham we played with three central midfielders".

"We approach seven games and we will have to use other players in this area, defenders, young players".

Striker Alvaro Morata is also out of the trip to Selhurst Park after injuring a hamstring in the 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City at the end of September, but could be back in time to face Roma on Wednesday.
