Robbie Lawler Faces Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 26

The promotion announced today that ex-welterweight champ Robbie Lawler (28-11 MMA, 13-5 UFC) will take on ex-lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos (27-9 MMA, 16-7 UFC), who seeks to win a belt at 170 pounds after joining the division earlier this year. Standing in his way is another former world champion looking to cement his own place at the top of the division.

Lawler vs. dos Anjos will headline the upcoming FOX UFC Fight Night card from Canada with more bouts expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

UFC officials made the announcement on Thursday. After being knocked out by Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in July 2016, he spent a year away from the cage before returning at UFC 214 this past July. In his next most recent outing, he defeated former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine by decision. That fight marked the first time "Ruthless" has fought since July, 2016, when his reign as welterweight champ was ended by a Woodley right hand.

The main event also pits two fighters who aren't likely to back down from one another.

The fight for Lawler, now ranked as the No. 1 contender to Woodley's throne, will be just his second since losing the belt.

The fight against Lawler will give dos Anjos the chance to prove his run at welterweight is no fluke as he tries to put himself into position to fight for the gold next year.

With the show headlining on FOX, the victor would have a strong case for a title shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who is now out of action with a torn labrum.
