Trump Claims Victory in War on Christmas: 'We're Saying Merry Christmas Again'

The annual Values Voters Summit kicks off in Washington, D.C. on Friday. "As we approach the end of the year-you know, we're getting near that lovely Christmas season that people don't talk about anymore".

"Since the early days of the campaign, President Trump allied himself with values voters, promising to put an end to the 8 years of relentless assault on the First Amendment", said Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council (FRC), of which FRC Action is a legislative affiliate.

'They don't use the word "Christmas" because it's not politically correct, ' Trump voted.

Speaking at the Values Voter Summit, Trump boasted about "tremendous strides" against ISIS and his plan to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, while saying he hoped to give Americans a Christmas gift of tax reform and to deliver on scrapping Obamacare, after multiple failed repeal efforts.

Heated debates over the "War On Christmas" have raged for years, with many on the right complaining that political correctness has made it less acceptable to say Merry Christmas. He pledged to make sure department store employees say "Merry Christmas".

"We will not allow government workers to censor sermons or target our pastors, our ministers or our rabbis", he said.

This is not the first time Trump has addressed the group and initially he was not universally well received. Trump, however, spoke at the event in 2015 and 2016.

Trump, facing difficultly in getting Congress to work with him on a host of issues, has focused more on his political base lately, catering to the conservative voters who vaulted him from reality TV star to President.

For Trump, Friday marks his third appearance at the Values Voter Summit and the first from a sitting president.
